FSHRMPS would like to invite you to join your colleagues from the South Florida area for a half day member roundtable to explore the topic of Managing Adverse Incidents and how risk managers are making the determination that the incident occurred as a result of a circumstance over which health care personnel could exercise control and which is associated in whole or in part with medical intervention, rather than the condition for which such intervention occurred.

The roundtable will open with an update on the current frequency and types of Adverse Incidents being reported in South Florida and an update on the impact of the Florida Supreme Court Opinion and the rights and obligations under federal law with regard to Adverse Incident Reports submitted to a PSO and the protections afforded under the federal Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act.   Following lunch we will present some case study Adverse Incidents and we will open the discussion to encourage everyone in attendance to share their experiences, challenges and best practices in conducting investigations, making a determination and reporting in compliance with Florida Law.

The agenda for this Roundtable is as follows:

I. Welcome and Introductions- Chuck Tawwater Associate Vice President/Chief Patient Safety Officer Risk, Patient Safety,Claims and Transfer Center Jackson Health System

II. Legislative and Regulatory Update- Kenneth R. Nanni, Ph.D., Executive Director FSHRMPS
