This program is designed for entry level risk managers and patient safety officers in Florida.  The workshop provides a context for the application of theory to practice in the real world and is organized around the functional areas of responsibility for risk managers working in various settings across the healthcare spectrum and as defined in Florida Law. 

Upon completion of the program participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the historical context and the implementation of statutorily mandated internal risk management programs in certain licensed facilities in Florida.
  • Understand the applicable state and federal laws, rules and standards which govern internal risk management programs.
  • Identify skills and competencies of the successful risk management/patient safety professional.
  • Describe the process of investigation and root cause analysis of the frequency of adverse incidents causing injury to patients.
  • Discuss the requirements for submission of the annual risk management report and strategies to prepare for the annual risk management survey.
