Communication of actionable results is a multifaceted problem that requires a flexible solution. The solution needs to incorporate people, process and technology. There are several types of important actionable communications, including critical, urgent, incidental. How do we ensure that these results are delivered, acted upon and then appropriately documented?  How do we keep incidental results from getting lost when buried deep in radiology report, when there are multiple handoffs between providers or when changes from inpatient to outpatient venues occur? How can we increase communication between providers yet not increase the burden on our already overtaxed and burnt out medical staff? It is well known that increasing communication between providers has enormous impact on the quality of care. How do we reconcile all these complex and sometimes competing factor?
