Risk issues in a medical practice are often similar to those in an acute care setting, but they also include unique challenges, such as how to collaborate with facility risk managers when an adverse event arises or when risk management, compliance or quality issues are identified that include both the physician office and various ambulatory, acute care and transitional care settings.  In a medical practice, the practice manager often finds themselves in the role of risk manager, compliance manager and coordinator for quality assurance activities.

This Round-table Workshop will offer an introduction to ways in which the practice manager can both implement and facilitate these processes.  Both the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) address this topic.  The presentation will utilize the definitions and framework from the MGMA’s Body of Knowledge on Risk Management as well as principles and resources from ASHRM to provide an introductory structure for developing a risk management program in the medical practice setting.

Topics will include identification of risk and compliance issues, incident reporting, responses to adverse events, quality assurance activities following incidents or events, communication and how to protect documentation of these efforts.  This workshop is intended to be interactive so we encourage you to bring your stories and questions to the program.

This program is designed for practice managers, organization administrative leadership, and risk management and quality assurance professionals who work with physician practices.
