This presentation is based upon the CNA Aging Services 2018 Claim Report. The major liability exposures for aging services providers are resident falls and pressure injuries. The data analysis includes trends in closed claims related to business segment, level of service, allegations, falls and pressure injuries. Relevant case scenarios for high severity claims will be provided for attendees to apply risk management solutions in their organizations in order to drive change in resident care practices and organizational culture.

In addition to examining the claim dataset, the presentation offers insights into critical industry issues based on interviews with Katie Smith Sloan, Lilly Hummel, David Gifford, MD and Richard Henry. Key topics include viewing staff as an investment and recognizing staff turnover as the most important metric of quality care. The presentation demonstrates that it is essential for organization leaders to recognize and appreciate the impact of staff retention not only on the quality of services provided but on the organization’s overall financial performance.
